Ingredients:

  • 1 lb frozen edamame in pods
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Thaw the edamame under cold water and pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels to ensure they sear rather than steam.
  2. Heat the avocado oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Add the edamame pods in a single layer and let them sit undisturbed for 2 minutes until blister marks develop, then toss for another 2 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium. Push the edamame to the sides of the pan to create a hole in the center; add the minced garlic and chili flakes and sauté for 30–45 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup, and black pepper. Toss rapidly for 1 minute until the sauce bubbles, thickens, and coats the pods, then remove from heat immediately.
